Who is at risk for nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy?
People who receive chemotherapy are at risk of having side effects, like nausea and vomiting. Some chemotherapies are more likely to cause nausea and vomiting compared to others. The dose of chemotherapy you receive and how often you get it matters as well. There are also personal risk factors that may increase the risk that you will get nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy.
Not all chemotherapy causes nausea and vomiting. Ask your healthcare provider if your chemotherapy is likely to cause nausea and vomiting.
Nearly 8 out of 10 people may have nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy if they do nothing to prevent it. Talk to your healthcare team to make sure you're taking steps to stand up to nausea and vomiting.
Nausea and vomiting may happen as a side effect of chemotherapy and can cause unwanted results, including
Too much fluid loss (dehydration)

Some personal risk factors may make you more likely to experience nausea and vomiting, including if you
